Hailing from New Bern, both Kate and Mary Chapman attended the Burwell School in the late 1840s when their names were printed in the Burwell School Catalogue [1].


Throughout her life, Kate was devoted to Mary's children. Kate herself never married. Instead she seems to have lived the life of the dedicated spinster aunt. She is thought to have lived to quite an old age [1].
